Description
Description:
The burning sage is used to cleanse, bless and heal, as well as to remove negativity from a person or an object.
Directions:
How to smudge (burning sage) your living space, an object, and more:
Put the sage in the burning container and light it. Let it burn for several seconds and then blow it out so that it keeps smoking. If it stops emitting smoke, try lighting it again.
The tips of the leaves should smolder slowly, releasing thick smoke. Direct this smoke around your body and space with one hand while holding the bundle in the other.
Allow the incense to linger on the areas of your body or surroundings you’d like to focus on.
Allow the ash to collect in a ceramic bowl or shell.
Walk to each room you wish to purify and let the smoke enter it. Do not allow any space to fill with too much smoke. Avoid inhaling the smoke directly.
You can also light and burn sage to improve odor, fragrance, and mood.
Precautions:
What to do after a smudge:
Make sure your smudge stick is completely extinguished. You can do this by dabbing the lit end into a small bowl of ash or sand. Once it’s completely put out, store it in a safe, dry place out of the sun.
Never leave burning sage unattended.
People with asthma and other respiratory conditions may be more sensitive to the smoke and have adverse reactions. Keep in mind that burning sage creates smoke, which can cause health problems for individuals who are prone to asthma and other respiratory conditions.
Always leave a window open while smudging. Inhaling smoke can be hazardous to your health.
If you plan on using sage internally, it is important to let your doctor know (just as you should with any complementary medicines you take).
