Thiamin

Thiamin, which is also known as vitamin B1, is a coenzyme used by the body to break down food for energy, maintain proper temperature, and ensure nerve function. It is a water-soluble vitamin that is used by almost every cell in the body and it is especially important for maintaining energy and a healthy metabolism. Thiamin ensures proper cardiac function, prevents cataracts, preserves proper digestion, improves memory, and helps maintain adequate red blood cell production. Whole grains, yogurt, eggs, lentils, meat, nuts, and soy are all excellent sources of thiamin, although it is also available as a nutritional supplement.
