Seaweed
Seaweed is a form of algae that grows in the sea and is a food source for ocean life, ranging in color from red to brown to green to black. It grows along rocky shorelines and can be eaten in dishes, such as sushi, salads, and stews, or taken as a supplement. Of course, it’s also quite nutritious and is one of the best sources of iodine and tyrosine, which are key hormones that help the thyroid do its job. While the vitamins and minerals in seaweed depend on their source, generally it contains vitamins A, C, E, and K, as well as folate, zinc, sodium, calcium, and magnesium. It is also a good source of omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin B12, along with fiber, and protective antioxidants. These sea vegetables are linked to reducing the risk of heart disease and improving blood sugar control. When it comes to skincare, seaweed is full of humectants that draw moisture from the environment, while its amino acids plump the skin, smoothing fine lines and hydrating the skin with vitamin E.
