Castor Oil

Castor oil is the oil pressed from castor seeds that grow on the tropical Ricinus communis plant. It has a wide range of medicinal and holistic properties that have been in use for thousands of use. Castor may be best known as a natural and potent laxative, but it has a variety of other common uses. Rich in monosaturated fatty acids, castor oil is a natural skin moisturizer that helps the skin retain moisture by preventing water loss via the outer layer of the skin. These same properties mean castor oil also helps wounds heal, reducing dryness and preventing the buildup of dead skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties reduce inflammation and sooth irritated skin, while fighting bacteria, which makes it an excellent remedy for acne. Finally, castor oil is known to lubricate the hair shaft and help promote skin growth, while moisturizing the scalp. It is even known to promote eyebrow and eyelash growth.
