Bilberry
Bilberries are small blueberries native to Northern Europe and also known as whortleberries, huckleberries, or European blueberries. Bilberries are often eaten fresh or made into jams, juices, or pies, but are also available as powders, juices, or supplements. Rich in nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins C and K, and manganese—like their cousin the blueberry—bilberries are a superfood with one of the highest antioxidant levels. They are also a good source of anthocyanins, a powerful flavonoid antioxidant that is responsible for most of the berries’ health benefits. These include improving vision in people with glaucoma, reducing eye fatigue, and improving eye dryness in people working in front of screens. They are also known to reduce inflammation, lower blood sugar, improve heart and brain function, and promote healthy blood circulation. The high antioxidant levels also contribute to preventing and fighting off infections, as well as keeping the skin clean and reducing breakouts, while preventing signs of aging.
